Patricia Garcia Torres, piano

Mexican pianist holder of a solid technique and special sensibility which is transmitted in an exquisite and brilliant tone, which makes of her interpretations something very personal which has deserved her some very notable critics:

Her talent is recognized worldwide and it is because of that that in 2007 she received the highest international distinction by being named "Steinway Artist", recognition which is granted to the most distinguished pianists in the world, being Garcia Torres only the second Mexican to receive it and it was in 2005 when she debuted in New York’s Carnegie Hall, receiving magnificent reviews.

In her country she has been recognized equally, in 2009 she was recognized as “Woman, Pride of Guadalajara. In December of that same year she received from the Governor of Jalisco, Emilio Gonzalez Marquez the “Jalisco Prize in Culture”. In 2005 she received the "Promomedios Award as Woman of the Year for her outstanding artistic career".

She holds a broad repertoire which spans from the Baroque to the contemporary masterpieces of Mexican composers some of which have been dedicated to her.

She has offered concerts in the most importan halls in the world in which the following stand out: Carnegie Hall and Steinway in New York City, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and the National Center of the Arts in Beijing, China. The National Theater of Costa Rica, Trefft Punkt in Stuttgart, the Franz Liszt Hall in Budapest and the Franz Schubert House Museum in Vienna. The University of Tucson, Garvan Gardens in Arkansas, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Blas Galindo Hall of the National Center of the Arts and the Art Museum all in Mexico City, and the Degollado Theater in Guadalajara.

She has played in international festivals such as The Cervantino International Festival, The Black and White International Piano Festival, Mexico in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. , Treft Punkt Festival Stuttgart, Cultural May Festival, San Miguel de Allende’s Chamber Music Festival, Peace Festival in San Salvador. Likewise, she has been invited to play as a soloist in the most important orchestras of Mexico and South America under the batons of Masters such as Hector Guzman, Eduardo Alvarez, Enrique Diemecke, Jorge Deleze, Francisco Savin, Guillermo Salvador, Gordon Campbell, Antonio Lopez-Rios, Francisco Pereda amongst others.

Her restless desire to spread the love for the piano mainly in children lead her to create “The Black King, the Piano”. This innovative didactic concert for children was first held in 2008 with the support of the Culture and Public Education Board of the Government of the state of Jalisco, presenting it to over 8000 children of public elementary schools of the state of Jalisco. Such was the welcoming on behalf of the children that Garcia Torres was invited to inaugurate the First Children’s Festival “Guido’s Notes” in Xalapa Veracruz and the International Cervantino Festival in 2010.

Garcia Torres has demonstrated that the language of music is spoken by children all over the world, proudly presenting her creation “The Black King, the Piano” in San Jose and San Juan Bautista in California, USA including in Beijing China, waking the interest and love for the piano amongst children of several nationalities.

She has been invited to participate in multidisciplinary concerts such as “El Sirenario” of the journalist and writer Yolanda Zamora and “The man on fire” with Luis Valdez, producer, actor and founder of the Campesino Theatre in California, USA.

She has a special determination to widespread concert music of Mexican composers; she has records focused mainly on this: “Mexican Music for violin and piano” with Sava Latsanich the violinist, “A Journey” and “Mexican Music” both piano soloist, under the label Quindecim Recordings.

Garcia Torres has dedicated great part of her time to teach future pianist and it is why she has offered master classes in the University of Costa Rica, the Trujillo Conservatory of Peru, the National Conservatory of Guatemala.

In Guadalajara, Mexico in The Cabañas Cultural Institute. Her participation as a teacher in Piano specialized workshop in the Art School.

Some of her students have received prizes at National and International piano competitions, while others have been accepted to continue their musical studies at institutions such as The Conservatory of Music in Roosevelt University, (USA); the Alfred Cortot Academic de Music de Paris, Hungria and Spain, given her the satisfaction to prepare her outstanding students to win several piano contests in all of Mexico.

In addition to his career as a soloist, Garcia Torres r also devotes a great amount of time to other activities in his native country and abroad:

  • She pursues Chamber Music projects.
  • Offers Private Lessons and Master Classes (piano and chamber music).
  • Appears as juror for piano/music competitions.
  • Performs recording projects (CDs)
  • Radio programs

Within her activities as a teacher she currently holds the position of Coordinator of the Music Area of the Bachelor Program of Arts in the Cabañas Cultural Institute in Guadalajara, where she has participated in the development of the study program in the music area of the innovative Bachelor of Arts program. She frequently offers masterclasses.

Patricia Garcia Torres studied in the National Music Conservatory in Mexico City under the instruction of Maria Teresa Castrillon with whom she graduated as a concert pianist. She took classes with the renowned Angelica Morales who later suggested she continue her studies in New York with Toni Grünschlag. On her return to Mexico she continued in the Perfectioning School “Vida y Movimiento” with Guadalupe Parrondo. She participated in perfectioning courses with great pianists such as Jörg Demus, Georgy Sandor, Aurora Serratos and Agustin Anievas.
