She graduated as pianist from
the National Music Conservatory of Mexico City, where she studied with Maria
Teresa Castrillon, continuing her perfection in New York City with Toni Grünschlag and in Mexico City in
the Perfecting School “Vida y Movimiento” under the instruction of Guadalupe
Parrondo. She has taken magisterial classes with masters Jörg Demus, Georgy
Sandor, Agustin Anievas, Aurora Serratos and Angelica Morales, in the last
years she has worked with Toni Grünschlag in New York.
Garcia -Torres has received
the highest praises for her classical music interpretations, as well as for the
interpretation of other contemporary composer’s masterpieces. In January of
2007 Steinway & Sons of New York named her International Steinway Artist,
recognition granted to the best pianist in the world.
During the fall of 2005, she
offered with great success her debut concert in Carnegie Hall in New York
receiving excellent reviews.
That same year she was granted
the “Promomedios Radio
Prize for Woman of the Year 2005” for her artistic trajectory, Woman of the
year 2009 of Guadalajara City and Jalisco Award in the Arts 2009.
The important national
trajectory of Garcia -Torres has also had international resonance representing
Mexico in concerts in Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall in New York City, in the
Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., University of Tucson, Arizona, Garvan Gardens,
Arkansas, San Jose California, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama,
Peru, Germany, Hungary in the Franz Liszt Orchestra Chamber of Budapest,
Austria in the “Mexican Musicians in Vienna” Festival in the Franz Schubert
Museum House in Vienna and National centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing
China.
She has appeared in the most
important halls of Mexico, in the Fine Arts Palace, Blas Galindo Hall of the
CENART, Silvestre Revueltas Hall as well as others.
She has participated as a
soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Acapulco, the Philharmonic of Jalisco,
National Symphony, the University Symphony of Nuevo Leon, the Symphony of
Morelia, Symphony Orchestra of Trujillo Peru, she has played under the baton of
Enrique Diemecke, Hector Guzman, Francisco Savin, Eudardo Alvarez, Jose
Gorostiza, Antonio Lopez-Rios, Mario Rodriguez Taboada, Francisco Pereda
amongst others.
In 1997 she joined with violinist
Savva Latsanich and made a record dedicated to Mexican composers of the
twentieth century “Mexican Music for Piano and Violin” of Quindecim Recordings,
presented in the Fine Arts Palace in Mexico City. Besides this important
achievement in 2004 Garcia Torres presented her record with piano solo pieces
“The Journey” with the same recording label, which she presented in the Art
Museum of Zapopan. She has offered master classes in the Costa Rica University,
in the National Conservatory of Guatemala, the Trujillo Conservatory in Peru
and The Cabañas Cultural Institute, Guadalajara, Mexico.
In the fall of 2007 and 2008
she presented in Guadalajara with support of the Public Culture and Education
State Department of the state of Jalisco didactic concerts for children “The
Black King, the Piano ®” with an audience of over 8000 children and thus carry out the goal of giving culture
to everyone. Also in California USA and in The National Centre for the
Performing Arts in Beijing China.
She has lived in Guadalajara,
Mexico for the past 22 where she develops her intense artistic activity within
the country and abroad.
